Today was the day! Mason was dropped off at the SLC airport in route to Santiago, Chile. It was a great day that started by waking up at 4am. We left the house around five in order to make it to the airport on time. Unfortunately, Mason had received a flu shot yesterday so he was feeling pretty achy and had some congestion. Nothing a 16 hour flight and some benedryl can fix, right? We got to the airport and were happy to find other missionaries were on his same flight and headed to Santiago. At least Mason wouldn't be alone. We were able to check-in his bags and then it was time to say goodbye. Most of us held our composure and some (me) found it a bit harder to keep it together. It's such a special moment letting your family member leave and knowing they are going to serve the Lord for two years. Special, but hard as well. Everything went pretty smoothly aside from airport security confiscated Masons shaving cream and toothpaste that was in his carry-on (minor packing error.) He is now in route to the Santiago MTC! He is probably still at the LAX with his six hour layover, but THEN he will be on his way to Santiago. Go Mason! Wahoo! I don't have his MTC address, but I do have his mission address where you can send him letters. Please write him! He will love it! I think it takes about 2-3 weeks for snail mail to reach him, so if you think he isn't writing you back, he most likely is and it's just taking forever.
